Don't Mind Me....I'm Just Having A Moment

Here I am 12 years ago about to head off to college. My parents bought me this car because it was safe, dependable, and with the hope that it should last so I wouldn't have to worry about a car payment after graduation. Little did I know, we were in for a grand adventure! 

My parents planned well because until this week, it was able to take me all around Texas, drive across country, and even live in DC for a short while. Along the way, it toted many friends and family members who shared many incredible experiences and created amazing memories with me. So it's with a little sadness that I say good to my trusty pal.

Ever since we met, my husband and I have been planning for our adventure together. As we approached the purchase of a new car, we knew that it would have to be up to the task of safely toting a family around. And just like that, we're here and beginning a new phase of our adventure together!

Vintage Technology in the Modern Day

Date night this weekend involved seeing "Super 8!"  I love science fiction and we were huge fans of  Lost, so I was really excited when the previews for this move came out and I saw that Spielberg and Abrams were involved. I also thought it was so clever that these directors featured the Super 8 technology since this is what they used to practice on. Introduced in the 1960s, Super 8 cameras were inexpensive, lightweight, and easy to use which allowed many families to document important life events. The film had to be developed in order to be played using a projector. It is hard to imagine that it would take considerable time to develop, but one hour had not been created yet!

The movie itself is about  kids shooting a horror film in the late 1970s.  While in the middle of shooting, they stumble upon a government cover up of an alien from outer space. The rest is what ensues as the alien runs rampant throughout their town.  At the end of the movie you get the chance to see the kids' Super 8 movie, so be sure to stay until the very very end!

Since seeing the movie, I have done a little more research about Super 8 technology on the web. The Smithsonian Collections Blog  highlights how the Super 8 has been a valuable tool for collecting and documenting scientific data. The Kodak website features wedding cinematographers that love to use this technology to document their client's special days in vintage fashion.

Super 8 is a cross between “E.T.” and “Goonies". Sadly, I was not as entranced by it as I wanted to be. It may be that I am getting old, but some of the language and situations seemed unnecessary for a fun family movie. All in all, the hubbs and I were definitely entertained and now I find myself inspired to get a Super 8 camera in order to document our important family moments! Do you have one?

Bloggie Times

I got a cool surprise from my dad for Christmas --  a bloggie! I haven't used it yet, but I  think it might just come in handy for blogging and capturing my crafting adventures. Anyone have one or used one? Any thoughts?


A cool feature is the built-in USB, which allows you to plug the bloggie directly into your computer to upload your video or to easily share your photos online. Another cool feature is that it shoots in full HD.  I'll have to charge it up while I watch the President's State of the Union and post a photo or two tomorrow!

My Favorite French Reporter/Adventurer

Oh the adventures of Tintin! What a fun little comic book with some of the greatest drawings ever! I just love the colors and the clothing!

These fabulous comics were written and drawn by Georges Prosper Remi better known as Hergi. He created a resilient little hero who experienced fantastic adventures throughout the world. Tintin was always accompanied by his little dog Snowy. Together they took both children and adults on adventures throughout Africa, the Soviet Union, the Moon, Tibet and many other exciting places.

Paper Obsession

I love paper and paper crafts, but even more than that -- I love paper dolls. My favorite paper dolls of all time are Dolly Dingle! You may look at Dolly Dingle and automatically think -- Campbell Soup Kid. But Dolly Dingle was the original creation of artist Grace Drayton that appeared in the early 1900's mag, Pictorial Review. Check out Dolly and her friends!

I'm currently collecting the Goebel figurines sold in the early 1980's that feature these dolls on great adventures.
